Jotham started his Medical Carier as a Diploma Physician in
In 1990, he developed a program for control of River Blindness using a combination of relatively new drug ivermectin a lavicide Temophos .. This began his biomedical Research Career.He worked with GTZ in the district Health Services together with a German Public Health specialist Dr. Walter Kipp.
They published a paper which was reporting a prevalence of onchocerciasis much higher in Kabarole District than was projected for the entire
This interested Prof. Buttner who was the WHO expert committee chairman who later established a collaboration with the GTZ Project. This was a big boost to the biomedical Research on onchocerciasis. Together with this team, the Control Program transformed into a Vector eradication program. Which eradicated onchocerciasis from the districts of Kyenjojo and Kabarole. A number of papers were published in International Journals.
In 1994, together with his team, Jotham discovered mansonella streptocerca, another filaria worm in the skin. This was the 1st time mansonella strepocerca was being reported in
