MMU Research Policy

Mountains of the Moon University's central function of teaching, learning and scolarship depend on an atmosphere in which freedom of inquiry, thought, expression, publication and peaceable assembly are given fullest protection. Expression of the widest range of viewpoints shoud be encouraged, free from institutional orthodoxy and from internal or external coercion. The University research policy establishes guidelines for the conduct of research by staff and students at MMU that allows openness in research, appropriate ownership of any resulting intellectual property, and protection against potential conflicts of committment and interest.

To this end the main objectives of the University with regards to research are:

  • to create an enabling, harmonious, transparent and efficient environment for research and publication
  • to strenthen research management and coordination
  • to improve research and publications culture
  • to improve funding for research
  • to improve gender responsiveness of the university through research and publication

Staff development is an organisartional function to encourage and facilitate continuing professional education to affirm staff committment to long quality work, skills and competence with confidence and creativity. MMU has taken staff development as its cardinal factor to the sustainability of the University in terms of promoting scolarship through research and publication, financial base through research projects and increased student's enrolment resulting from quality teaching and learning.

Staff development is done, internally, through seminars and workshops organised and run by schools and departments within the University, and also externally through workshops, conferences, staff exchange and longer term specialised training such as Masters or PhD programmes.
