Introduction
We live in exciting times. The dawn of the knowledge age has brought with it an unprecedented opportunity for delivering a higher quality of education, in more engaging ways, to a wider audience than ever before.
Information and communication Technologies (ICTs) have the potential to act as revolutionary tools, opening doors to any one learning any where, anytime. The innovative and appropriate use of the ICTs can help those excluded from learning and improve the quality of education for all. Through ICTs, disparities in educational access and quality can be reduced, while at the same time, education systems can enhance the knowledge and skills of their learners, promoting creativity, critical thinking, Decision making, Team work and Learning how to learn.
The Department issues professional and an interoperability framework to support the delivery of IT and IS services to staff, students, stake- holders, citizens and enterprises.
It recommends technical policies and specifications. It is based on open standards and encourages the use of open source software.
The Globe is covered with massive technologies that are under utlised and whose operators are secure. Mountains of the Moon University can not afford to be a bystander of computing and ICTs presence in the globe. At the heart of training and support services is the Department of Computing and Information Communication Technologies with Computing and ICT skills being taught in all courses at the University.
With Computing and ICTs, we often see a tendency to dream, that Computing and ICTs transform with ease, their impacts so supreme, that basic human challenges evaporate before them, and thus in plans for computing and ICTs, too often we ignore them.
Although the technology is changing, the validity of the basic scientific and engineering principles upon it is based has not changed for years since the first computers were built. These fundamentals form the basic core of the Computer literacy upon which the graduate can adapt to whatever the next reign will bring.
Using computers and ICTs takes not just engineering courses, but finance, project management and human resources. It also takes the building of a “culture” over time, across the many sectors that must orchestrate the climb, involving universities, commercial operators, official types and NGO’s on the globe.
Our Vision:
Breaking down barriers and building bridges to make ICTs relevant to the less advantaged and Foster ICT in the global village.
