Bachelor of Business Management (BBMT)

Introduction

This program aims to provide an extensive understanding of management in organizations both in the private and public sectors. It provides a blend of theoretical studies with practical aspects of business management through lectures, tutorials, case studies, group work and independent study and research. Being resolute on practical placements in the recess semesters will provide a strong link to the community, which is vital in tackling real needs and challenges. The program has been designed in a way that provides opportunity for students to specialize in.

Course Objectives

The main objective of this program is to produce students with extensive skills necessary to meet contemporary business management demands in a variety of organizational settings. Specifically, graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Understand how to plan, organize, lead and control an organization
  • Increase individual knowledge of self, the dynamics of group and team interactions, and their impact upon productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Recognize the application of laws and the legal system to the organization environment.
  • Employ human relations/human resource management skills and abilities in the organization environment
  • Develop public relations skills and communicate effectively both orally and in writing in organizational setting.
  • Comprehend basic financial control, financial management, accounting methodologies, ethics and social responsibility and their application to the organization.
  • Apply strategic management processes to the analysis of the modern organizational operations, identify and forecast trends and make recommendations on possible courses of action
  • Appreciate the international arena and its role in the operations of modern business organizations.
  • Understand basic computer applications that are vital in the running of an organization as well as the designing of suitable management information systems (MIS) that are critical for the smooth running of the organizations.

Course Duration

This is an evening and weekend course. The entire study period of study of the degree program shall extend over a period of three academic years. Each academic year consists of two semesters of seventeen weeks each the last two weeks of each semester being devoted to examinations.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements to join the program:

  • Sat U.C.E examination (or equivalent) and obtained a certificate in it.
  • Have at least two principal passes at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (U.A.C.E) or its equivalent obtained at the same sitting.
  • Hold a 1st or 2nd class Diploma or its equivalent in a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Through the University Bridging Program (for foreign students who do not satisfy the above listed requirements). Refer to the MMU Bridging Program
