Diploma in Education (Primary) (DEP)

Introduction

This Diploma in Eduction is specifically designed for the benefit of serving Grade-3 Primary teachers.

Course Duration

The program extends for a minimum of two academic years with two sets of school practice at the end of each academic year.

Course Structure

In order to realize the aims of this program, students study the following Core and Elective courses.

Core Courses
DCS 1101 - Communication and Study Skills
DIT  1101  - Basic Computer Literacy
DFE 1101  - Foundations of Education
PEM1201 - Primary Education Studies and Management
DIT 1201  - Basic Computer Literacy
DMA 1201 - Mathematics for Teachers
DGT1201 - General Teaching Techniques and Education Technology
DPS 2101 - General Psychology
DRM 2101- Research Methods in Education
DPS 2201 - Psychology of Education

Electives
Each student will be expected to take one of the combinations of teaching subjects below:

Option 1 - Mathematics and Agriculture
Option 2 - Mathematics and Science Education
Option 3 - Mathematics and Physical Education
Option 4 - English and Religious Education
Option 5 - English and Social studies
Option 7 - English and Music
Option 7 - English and Art and Crafts

Admission Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements to join the program:

  • An “O” level Certificate or its equivalent from a recognized Institution

  • Grade III Teacher’s Certificate

  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in a Primary school

Career Prospects for Graduates

Graduates from this program can go back to their schools to teach or gain employment in private primary schools.
