The Human Resource Manual was launched on December 12th 2011, the ceremony was held at MMU Saaka Campus and among the dignatories was the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Registrar Academic, School Deans, Heads of Departments etc. In summery we bring you the words of wisdom from some of the speakers of that day.
Chancellor’s speech
He noted the following
1.We can not have quality teaching without:2. There are three groups in the University, Managers, Staff and Students.
Finally University has a variety of all and all sorts of people, with different personalities. We should respect each other to fulfill the University Vision, Mission and Goals.
Vice Chancellors Speech
The University is made up of Administrators, support staff, academic staff students and our community. It is under National Council for Higher Education in line with the Constitution of Uganda.
Developing the human resource manual has been a process which was participatory, open to every one in the institution and beyond. Hence making it University manual for all generations not for selected few.
The manual will continually be edited, adjusted and amended from time to time for the good of the institution.
Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Speech:
He recognized the individuals who have worked tirelessly through all stages to the end of developing the manual. Most especially, he recommended Nick Henwood, Morris Barns who have worked without pay all through the exercise and recommended them for an award next graduation.
He asked staff to own the policies and always refer to them in case of any misunderstanding, perceived unfairness etc.
Speech of the Human Resource Manager
He asked staff to own a copy of the policy, (hard copy) so as to help at any point of need. He requested for those who don’t understand certain things to inquire first through their line managers or supervisors and then the human resource office where help always awaits.
The members behind the production were recognized for the work well done and were recommended for an ward on the next graduation. these were;
The manual is now operational but members should read the content in the manual. Monitoring and Evaluation, Feedback and periodic review is very vital for it to be useful to all staff.
The chancellor concluded: By requesting management to start implementing the content in the manual, monitor and evaluation, feedback and periodic review is very vital for it to be useful to all staff.
